To arrive at a finished product, raw material has to be supplied. The raw material
is processed into mixes and regular peat moss and finally, the finished product
is stored or shipped to a customer.
The raw material comes in two forms, Block Cut and Vacuum harvested.
Block Cut and Vacuum peat are unloaded in a common area of the factory. Block Cut
has additional stages to go through, breaking down of the blocks into a more workable
product. Vacuum peat due to the harvesting method is routed directly to the screening
process.
The initial preparation includes different screening stages with screens that range
in size from 12mm to 50mm. It is during these stages that unwanted material such as
sticks etc., are removed.
The screening also allows for the provision of various grades of peat moss used in the
manufacture of Heveco’s products.
Regular peat moss has no additives, once screened it is packaged as V-Peat, Heveco
coarse, medium or regular.
Mixes require the addition of fertilizer and nutrients. Quantities of which depend
on the type of mix being produced and the specific use of that growing medium. All
fertilizers and nutrients additions have been formulated over many generations and
are controlled electronically by weight and volume and added to raw peat equaling 3
bales. The controlled “Batch Mixing” provides a very high growth consistency that is
expected by the professional grower.
Heveco’s mixes and peat moss products are packaged using a 4 stage press that is
standardized within the industry. We are, depending on product, able to provide 4, 6,
and 110 cu ft bales compressed at a ratio of 2:1.
We try to provide the customer with the freshest possible product. Storage, however,
is a must as the quantities shipped over a day, month or year demands that a stock
pile of various products be available at your request.
